The most effective way to use the techniques is with a trained therapist who can create a customized plan for you. But you can apply the concepts on your own.
Habit reversal training can be broken down into three parts.
- Awareness training
- Competing response training
- Establishing Motivation and support
And then there’s an add-on technique called Stimulus Control that pairs well with habit reversal training to make it even more effective.
